Bruce Herman / Makoto Fujimura: 1+1=1

Bruce Herman and Makoto Fujimura, each remarkable and impactful artists, are also deeply kindred spirits who have forged a bond over many years.

This episode was inspired by their joint exhibition at Gordon College in the fall of 2025.

Here is the painting they reference a number of times — it is Bruce’s rendition of Makoto’s father, done in 2012 for a previous iteration of their “Four Quartets” joint exhibition. And there is an amazing co-inherence of stylistic elements.
